| BRITISH UNDER 18 FINAL |
| This meeting always seems to be a cracker and this year was no exception with the leading pack changing positions throughout before Lewie Carr beat defending champion Ray France in a run-off to claim the title. Carr had dropped points in his first race but was immaculate thereafter to take the title, although he was fortunate when Ray France fell and was excluded in the deciding run-off leaving him to coast around and claim the trophy. A run-off was also required to decide 3rd place with Michael Plant getting the better of Scott McLeish to complete the rostrum places. Plant, at just 16 years of age, will be eligible to come back for one more go and will want to claim the title with nobody else in the top 5 young enough to be involved next season. |
| Tommy Davey, 3rd last season, was well placed into the last round of races but surprisingly failed to score in heat 19 leaving him back in 5th overall. Last year's other rostrum finisher, in 2nd, Craig Leonard was unfortunate to suffer engine problems at the line in his final heat leading to a 2 minute exclusion which denied him any chance of finishing higher than 7th this time. Of the younger riders on show who will be eligible next season, along with Plant, Noah Nicholson did well to finish 6th and 15 year old Michael France, who will have 2 more runs at this title, did very well to score 8 and end in the top half. Marcus Jay ended with a pair of wins and he will want to be back next season with a more consistent performance that could put him amongst the leaders. Although they didn't make an impact at the top of the leaderboard Shane Dwyer and Ralph Whelan both picked up useful points and will be back next season, along with Ben Case and reserve Robbie Cormack. |
| So it's congratulations to Lewie Carr who adds his name to a list of former winners that includes riders such as Scott Bridges, Luke Treadwell, Nick Ambrose, Liam Reay and Hayden Wood who have all gone on to make a big impression on the international stage. |
