SWEDISH GRAND PRIX

After heat 8 it looked like this could be the round where the GP title was all but decided, in the end it turned out to be the one where the title chase was blown wide open!  LIAM REAY (TILBURY DOCKERS) dropped points in his opening riders but after that was untouchable as he won this round and picked up 19 points to not only catch the series leader but move 3 clear at the top of the leaderboard.  With just one round remaining can the defending champion make it 3 titles in a row and match the achievement of Nick Ambrose in doing so?  Runner up in the round was GABRYS IRZYK (NEWMARKET RAIDERS) - the Pole has made a real impact in the series this year and is not virtually guaranteed a place on the rostrum at the end of the series but, just 6 points off the leader, could still win the whole thing.  HAYDEN WOOD (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) found his form at the right time to move up to 4th overall and he will almost certainly, he needs just a single point, be back in the series next season.  OLLE BJORN THORESEN (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) completed the Grand Final lineup after a good round which lifts him to joint 9th overall but with a 12 point gap to 8th he looks destined for the GP Challenge if he wants to get back in the series for next season.

FILLIPPE CHONG (WANTAGE KINGS) and HANS E BERGESTOL (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) both reached the Semi Final stage and the pair are odds on for an automatic place in next season's GPs.  Wild Card RICKY ANTUNOVICH (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) also reached the last 8 here and his 10 points was a return which shows he is more than able to compete at the top level.  HENRIK HANSEN (TUNSTALL TERRIORS) gave his confidence a timely boost, ahead of what looks like a trip to the GP Challenge meeting, by scoring 9 points.

Of the rest BRAXTON MCCHESNEY (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING), NIKITA FEDERENKO (WEDNESFIELD WANDERERS) and STEEN ERIKSEN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) all look destined for a place in the GP Challenge with the gap between them, all in joint 9th, and 8th place at a big 12 points.  NICK AMBROSE (RYE RACERS) had a bad round that ended any lingering hopes of a top 3 finish overall but the triple champions looks certain to be back next season as he sits comfortably in joint 5th still.  The big story of the day was the performance of series leader LUKE TREADWELL (TUNSTALL TERRIORS) who started well but then really struggled and ended up with just 5 points which meant he lost his lead in the overall standings.  Treadwell has upset the odds all season and, just 3 points behind the leader, the big question now is can he lift himself one final time and cause possibly the biggest GP upset or has he run out of steam?  BOGUSLAW KRYZNOWEK (MILTON KEYNES CATS) had a poor round but is still well placed in the top 8 whilst CHRIS ADAMS (BRATSILAVA BUZZARDS) and MACIEJ TERCJAK (ZAGREB ZEBRAS) continued their struggles in the series and they are well down in 14th and 15th overall.
